The only thing I would change is when they hum the theme is to either make the humming in the same key as the background music, or fade the background music out somehow, it’s in a different key so it sounds distracting (to me anyway).

PWNED was a typo that dates almost exclusively back to 1997, Quake2. Do some research, planetquake.com had an article about it back in 1997 about it. It came from having to quickly type “owned” when playing, because there was no voice over.

The p was hit with the right hand ring finger from hastily typing.

hey, I just wanted to say that this was a great short film. I loved and hated the cussing. Well, here’s what I meen. the “come out bitch!” was great. good part for a swar. I love how no one knows where this whole “Pwned” thing comes from, and all call each other noobs as well. I’d like to set this to rest before this continues.
“Pwned” originates from a World of Warcraft map maker who misspelled “Owned”, and didn’t realize his mistake until it was too late. It has advanced into mainstream culture since then.
On pronunciation, it was originally “pwned” with a bit of a u sound in there. Because of how it’s become a part of our culture, the pronunciation ranges anywhere from “pOned” to “pewneed”(I’ve heard it like that. From a little kid who assumed I knew nothing of it, he referred to it as “Halo-Speak” >_> ). G4 is the most mainstream place this is used frequently, and they pronounce it “POwned”. So most people pronounce it like that. Fighting over a typo is silly. Seems like a lot of people consider it serious business.
Now that’s resolved. M’kay? Pronounce it however you want, believe whatever story of its origin you want to believe. It doesn’t really matter. Elandur, Spezz, thanks for the input.
Now, onto the movie. Even if it didn’t seem like something big at first, it turned out great. A lot of people love this. Congrats. As for critique, I think the falling scenes were a bit drawn out, and seemed a bit misplaced. I realized while watching this, was that if the turrets really fell that much, they would be used to it. Hence, no swearing. A lot of the swearing in it seemed unnecessary, but it really added character to the turrets. If you were to fix some things, I would recommend a new intro, and changing up the falling scene.
I loved some of the humor you used in there. “No shit, sherlock” was wonderful, I’ve used that phrase quite a few times before. A lot like the “I take off my robe and wizard hat” joke in LeetWorld. Great references. The Cake reference and companion cube parts are great Portal jokes.
Great job you guys, keep up the good work.

This is a gem. Not only did it make me want to buy Portal, but I came to your site looking for more. Your filmmaking skills are top notch. Dialog is funny as hell, your montage is spot on, background music is perfect. The references are great too. Don’t tell me someone is old enough to have seen Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid – or was the long shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit fall from somewhere else (and stolen)? Whatever. This movie is a lesson in filmmaking – everything works. Congrats. Too bad you can’t make money from it. If this was a moonlight effort, you’re in the wrong business.

This is a work of comical genius. Not even kidding, whenever I feel like shit I watch this and it makes me smile =].
Personally I like the swearing, though many disagree. I think it adds to the theme because it makes them more normal. And in all actuallity, they dont swear that much anyways so it “doesnt ruin the inocence.”
I have personally played Portal and it is a super fun game and this just gives you a different look at it. I get serious while playing Portal because its like a giant brain teaser. Its fun but it also makes you think.
What Im getting at is that this and the game are both works of art and just like a musiem’s painting people get different thoughts and feelings about each piece. So some says its a “rip off” or a “bad use of swearing” or what have you… but if you look at what it took to put this together you have to appreciate it and its enginuity.
