A few things should be said before I close this post.

Comments don’t determine the overall thoughts of the community. Thousands of people come here everyday (yes, thousands), but only a hundred or so comment. Just because 5-10 are vehemently voicing opposition doesn’t mean the whole community is upset, either. The few don’t speak for the many.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m super proud of this community’s passion for what we do. All of this riled-upness comes from your love of the show. But yes, a couple of you really are acting like sore losers over this.

And a few of you are being downright rude towards people that worked hard on something creative. Say what you want about the contest and complain that it wasn’t fair (even though Lars posted a link on his website too and told people to vote for HIM, just like the other contestants no doubt did)…

However, don’t be a jerk about someone’s hard work. It’s immature and frankly, disappointing.

I believe Jonathan Coulton, the writer of Still Alive, sums it up perfectly when he commented on people bashing fan-made tributes to his work:

“Really? This is a good use of your time, to make someone you’ve never met feel bad…? Where’s your thing that you made and put online for everyone to see…?

My hope is that the rise of amateur content and all these channels dedicated to circulating it is creating a race of super humans who have extra thick skin… It takes a lot of guts to put yourself out there. Believe me, I know, I spent nine years in a day job because I was afraid to do it. So it drives me nuts to see people lobbing bullshit negativity into the crowd… if you don’t have a piece of yourself to contribute, keep quiet. The rest of us are working here.”

So, in the interest of not furthering the poo-slinging, I’m going to close this down. It’s unfortunate that the actions of a few have brought it to that. Once again, congrats to DJShox, and thanks everyone for voting!

For the future( if there still going to be contest like this ), voting system should be more like American Idol, where public vote only some what effected, but the real decision should base on real judges…maybe Ned as Simon and the rest of the Leet team.

American Idol’s judges pick the finalists in the beggining, after that it’s out of their hands and the public gets all the power. Exactly like this vote. Just thought I ought to clear that up.

It will hurt if another Machinima artist hits the scene. The reason is that if that artist is no good then the quality of the Machima goes down with it. I call bullshit on DJ Shox. Come on guys, Lars was the real winner because the majority of the community voted for him. In a last ditch attempt to win, DJ Shox “recruited” people to vote for him and not his stupid intro song. You see it in all these post, we wanted Lars to win because he had the superior song. If you guys go with DJ Shox you will dissapoint all of the community.

There is SO much I disagree with in here that it’s not even funny. first off:It’s a vote, and you all are playing real sore losers on this. I voted for Shox from the start because I thought his fit the show best (there’s a comment in the vote thread explaining my views), I’m as amazed as anyone else about this turnaround, but there is no sign of foul play here. He did what anyone trying to win a vote for ANYTHING will do: convince people to pick him. That’s what a vote is, so quit this “cheating” crap. Lars probably did some to, and that’s totally fine as well. It happens, and you need to get over this grudge you have. And telling the Guys that they’ll disappoint their fan base if they don’t do what you want? That’s low. this is Player-like behavior “ZOMG WtF ChEatErS!!1!”, and it’s ruining what should be a very cool moment in Smooth Few Films history. Don’t be a kill joy man, why can’t you just roll with it? Does it really matter that some guy you probably don’t even know won an online vote and you picked one of the other guys? Just let it be man. Oh, and have you considered the fact that the people who voted for him haven’t posted because they won, and the Lars’ supporters have because they didn’t and felt obligated to be heard? I wasn’t planning on posting until I saw all this bashing and fingerpointing going on. Think about it before you end up as the little n00b who cried hax, k?

ANYWAYS… congrats to DJShox, can’t wait to hear his work in the (three-part) finale!
