Duels, Fates and Phantoms

We now proudly present to you dudes and dudettes that visit our site, Episode 12 of The Leet World, “Attack of the Noob“. Once you watch it, you’ll realize that I wasn’t kidding when I said this one was going to be a big one. Mondo big.

After this, there will be just two more episodes before the end of the season, making for a total of 14 episodes. Season 2 will resume in the Fall along with our insanity and lack of a social life. But don’t worry, over the next few weeks we’re going to start talking about our summer plans, and what kinds of cool stuff you can expect. The plans may or may not involve lollerskates.

Downloadable versions and YouTube will be up in the morning.

Eye Candy

Episode Twelve is coming within a week. Unfortunately, I can’t give any more details than that, but it’s on its way and ready to be watched. If you haven’t had a chance, get to reading Leeroy’s Bio and find out more about your favorite nerd. Some brand new screenies:

Leeroy: A Nerd’s Path

Nick was out of town for the weekend, Daniel had work and I was sick as a dog, but all-in-all, great things still happened on the progress of Episode Twelve. Daniel and I put in an 8 hour day on Saturday and made some stuff happen. There will be some more news in a few days about when you can expect the episode, so I’m sure you’re all ready to hear that. This episode is a big one, that’s for sure.

Also, today’s Daniel’s birthday. He’s old. Not really.

Like I said before, I was pleased with how everyone responded to Ahmad’s Biography last week. Hopefully, this week will be no different. Our next stop on the biography tour is Leeroy.

Stop – Hammer-Time

Much thanks to those dudes who helped me mess with Hammer over the weekend, especially Lord Ned. Dude went way out of his way to listen to me gripe about it. It’s funny, because all I wanted to do was some simple tweaks to make Militia a little more functional for what we use it for, and in reality I should have done it sooner.

I have to say I’m pleased with how well Ahmad’s Bio has been received by you guys. Truthfully, Nick’s been bugging me to write character bios since, um, forever, but Nick is usually wrong about stuff so I didn’t listen. I’m kidding. Nick is mostly always right so I should have listened long ago. We’ll be adding one of those each week.

Keep cracking on those Themetacular Challenge entries. A few of you have been asking for the vocals, which have been added to the official rules page.

And finally, some new screenshots of Episode Twelve, complete with Leeroy’s Lair, now working in Counter-Strike: Source instead of GMod.

Ahmad: A Noob’s Story

Meant to get this up earlier, but my internet died tonight…

Though we had our share of problems over the weekend, we are for the most part unscathed. I must say that Hammer is the bane of my existence, currently. Besides that though, Episode Twelve is still trucking along. Should have some more extras and screens up this week.

In my last post I mentioned that we would hopefully be adding some cool new content to the website over the weekend. A “virtual nerdery” were my exact words. Well, the bulk of that will be coming at a later date, but I thought I’d present a small piece of it to you right now.

Starting once a week, I’ll be posting up a character bio of one character from The Leet World, which should take us through the end of the season. This week’s character bio: Ahmad.

Dirty Dozen: Episode 12 Screenshots

It’s so bizarre to be working on our 12th episode. So far, Episode Twelve isn’t quite the three-headed dogbeast we imagined it would be. I think we always forget how much easier a regular episode is in comparison to something like a challenge episode.

If you haven’t seen the Themetacular Contest rules yet, I’d advise you to check them out. Remember, we don’t want to just hear you guys trying your best to imitate Damn Dangerous- get creative, go all out, make the song your own, change the style- the more distinct, the better.

Here are some screenshots from Episode Twelve to satiate The Leet World appetite, if only temporarily. Over the weekend, we’re going to start adding some really cool new content to the website. A virtual nerdery for those of you obsessed with really digging into that kind of stuff. Should be fun.

Create your own rendition of The Leet World theme by Damn Dangerous by Monday, May 12th for a chance to win some cool prizes. The winner of this Themetacular Challenge will not only win a sweet TLW related prize produced by Smooth Few Films, but they will also get another bonus — their song will play during the intro to Episode 14, the Season One finale!

After the May 12th deadline, 5 finalists will be selected by Smooth Few Films, and the final voting will be held here on the site. Don’t worry, downvoting won’t be a factor in this contest.

The Arrival

There’s a reason that there are so many failed or left behind machinima series out there- machinima is a pain in the arse to make.

Throughout the course of Episode 11, there have been all kinds of… “complications”. Relatives coming in town to visit (which consequently disrupts the filming schedule), a broken “actor” computer that had to be replaced, working full-time, the Rockets 22 game winning streak, etc. Oh, and our jobs. The list goes on. When you add that this might be the most complicated episode we’ve attempted, then you’ve got a lot on the Smooth Few Films plate.

But it has finally arrived. Almost. Tonight (Tuesday the 25th) or tomorrow morning (Wednesday the 26th), Episode 11 will be here.

Before this, the longest two episodes to make were Episodes 4 and 8. That’s elite company. Make of that what you will. I’m not making any promises, but this episode has epic face-rocking potential laden within its bytes of data. And like the wily creatures from the Alien films, it is ready to pounce and plant its awesomeness in your body.

A Special Message

There’s quite a bit of you guys out there floating in the nebulous ether of the internet. You know who you are: The Leet World fans. Some of you are on this site, some of you are out on YouTube and some of you get updates from other websites. While we love the long, sweeping arms of “da web”, ultimately, we’d like to see all of our fan community located in one place. That’s why we try to offer things like podcasts, screenshots, forums, trailers, and extras to make sure you guys come here first for information regarding future episodes and projects.

While more and more people are coming from these other places, we’d still like to see our website become more of a central hub for the people that like our videos. So often on YouTube we get messages like “When’s the next episode” or other questions that are answered right here on this site. This little message is up for our YouTube subscribers, encouraging them to come here for information regarding episodes and the like. I thought we’d show you guys, too.

Smooth Few Films in the Press

Apparently, we were recently mentioned on GamesRadar as the number two Halo 3 Machinima directors on the web. It’s a great review, and they have a lot of cool things to say about our work in the Halo engine. It seems that if we had done more, we might have snagged first place. To check out the article and see some other cool Halo stuff, read up on it at the Machinima Academy Awards. They even mention The Leet World series. It’s fun to see this kind of press, especially considering that Smooth Few Films was also mentioned in the April issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly for “A Day in the Life of a Turret”. Much thanks to the 1Up crew for that nod.

We are still toiling mightily on Episode Eleven, making a Herculean effort to get it out as soon as possible. There’s a delicate balance between working efficiently, quickly, but not rushing it to the point that you’re hurting the end product. So far, we’re happy with where the episode sits, and we’re nearing the finish line.

As always, we’ll let you know when we’re on the “eve” of release- we’ll be there any day now. Below are a few more screenshots from the episode.
